A Place of Fantastic Flora (habitat study) Unglazed clay vessels, ventilation pipes, industrial absorbent foam, farming salt lick, Black Forest mineral water. 2020.

A Place of Fantastic Flora (habitat study) is a climate control device that disperses humidity into the space, inspired by an ancient Roman practice of using wet earthenware and textiles to cool and purify air. The objects subtly alter the air composition, highlighting the absurdity of climate control, which eases discomfort for some while producing damaging effects. The vessels, made of porous unglazed clay, hold mineral water from the Swabian Black Forest. As the water exits their surfaces, it is absorbed by industrial foams and salt blocks before evaporating. A stack of Black Forest water bottles forms a semitransparent cube, which gradually shrinks as the vessels are refilled daily by the museum's personnel, alluding to the forest’s exploitation throughout history for mining, forestry, and tourism.
